I bought this guitar at the old Brown's music on 75th and Pacific. It was pretty beat up. Tried to refinish it myself. Big mistake. Had a friend of mine shoot it with laquer after I tried a tung oil finish on it.
I put a set of Black Diamond medium strings on it and the bridge pulled off. I took it up to John Hargiss and asked him to put it back in order. What a beautiful job he did too.
Terrific tone. All Mahogany.
GALLAGHER 71 SPECIAL 1979
SERIAL # 1192
Gallagher guitars are built in Wartrace, Tennessee. Started in 1965, this small business makes about 80 guitars per year. Current serial numbers are around 3000.
Smooth as silk, but has a bite when you want it. I bought it from Russo's on consignment. A guy from Lincoln traded it in on a Gibson J-200.
G&L ASAT SIGNATURE MODEL 1991
Bought it same year Leo Fender passed away. It's been a workhorse. Ordered tortoise shell pickguard.
I asked around about the name ASAT. The story I got from a luthier here in town (and I'm not sure he's right, but it works for me) is "almost same as Telecaster."
One of the Minstrel guitars made by John Hargiss. A lot of sound for such a small guitar. Great for around the campfire, and it records well too.
It is an all Benson guitar- all the wood is from here; and the top John picked up at Home Depot!
