Omaha
If you should travel to Omaha, let this be a reference of my favorite's. What to do, where to eat, what to expect.
Best restaurants-
Mexican-
O.J.'s-- way up north by the Mormon Bridge in Florence. Best salsa in town bar none. Christine loves the Guacamole Tostados Grande. Big! Great Nacho's and I recommend the Enchilada.... wow! Tell Olga I said hi! She is the O of O.J.s
Further down 30th street in Minne Lusa (the neighborhood I grew up in) is Ramona's. Luis is the nicest guy you'll ever want to meet. Some folks go there for the humongous cheeseburgers. It's the #1 combination for me.
On south 24th street it's El Alamo. It's what I think Mexico must be like. (I've never been there) Terrific red and green salsa, best Menudo in town, Margarita's to die for.
Last but not least is the GI Forum. South 20th St. terrific prices, the lunch special on Thursday is tacos a buck apiece (big tacos.) Best chili in town.
Italian-
Frankie and Phyll's. South 24th St, near downtown. Frankie has been there for most of his 80 some years. His wife Phyll runs the kitchen. Tuesday and Friday the lunch special is linguini with white clam sauce. Come hungry. it's great.
Sgt. Peffers. The Alfredo sauce here is sinful, rich, don't count those calories. On Saddle Creek road. Yes, that Saddle Creek. I am a musician so a lot of these places are where a musician would go.
Pizza-
Try the Pizza Shoppe on Maple Street. Amy makes great pies and there is live music and a hippy ambience. She caters, too.
Back down to Saddle Creek Road for Mama's. Piled high with cheese, the combination is as good a piece of pizza as one can expect. Neighborhood Sports bar feel. order a pitcher!
